Look out for positive results

It’s a truism that we tend to find the kind of results we look for.

Sad, then, that most people never look around to find positive opportunities.

Most of us are so focused on our daily problems, that we never bother to look around for the opportunities that could supercharge our lives and make our problems just a thing of the past.

You’ve heard, I know, the old proverb that “He can’t see the forest for the trees.” In other words, even though we may have the world around us to look at, we become so focused on our little part of it that we ignore the entire rest of the world. We ignore the positive opportunities. We forget about the chances to change. We never focus on our potential – merely concentrating on the problems of the “here and now.”

In other words, we sell ourselves short, because we focus on the world that’s two inches in front of our nose – rather than on the vast opportunities that surround us.

In effect, as Herb Cohen said once, not only can’t we see the forest for the trees, we don’t even see the tree – all we focus on is one little knothole.

In our lives, we need to look out for the positive opportunities that may present themselves, and that requires enlarging our field of vision to encompass more than just our petty problems. We must look for challenges that will bring out the best in ourselves, as well as opportunities that, although they may require some personal growth, can transform our lives into something significantly better!

You’ve all seen pictures of horses that have “blinders” on. These blinders restrict the horse’s ability to see around him – the purpose being to keep the horse’s attention on the road ahead.

We are not draft horses. Altogether too often, we tend to see our potential and possibilities using the blinders of the past. These blinders, like those worn by the horses, restrict our vision to a very narrow field of vision – and in so doing, restrict our ability to see future paths of success that we might follow.

We need to widen our viewpoints, change our angles of vision, and make our lives encompass more of the positive opportunities that surround us every day.

We need to constantly be on the lookout for positive opportunities, that will yield positive results and a positive future.
